Pender County is located in Southeastern North Carolina, close to the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The eastern part of the county touches the Atlantic Ocean and includes Topsail Island and Hampstead, whereas the western side encompasses several smaller communities such as Currie and Atkinson. Burgaw is the county seat and is home to the North Carolina Blueberry Festival each June. Moores Creek Battlefield is located in the northwest corner, which is the site of the 1776 patriot victory in the Revolutionary War.
